Our first email introducing RETA was purposefully sent to a small, select group of just 30 people. This strategic choice allowed us to get directly in front of network heads and key influencers, ensuring our message reached the most influential leaders in the industry.
From my experience, most corporate teams are keen to promote their brand, support their members, and highlight achievements within their networks.
By specifying the type of stories we're after, we invited recipients to identify individuals within their groups who might be interested in contributing content.
This approach benefits us by providing high-quality material for our publication, while simultaneously giving the networks exposure and allowing contributors the chance for broader recognition.
So far, we’ve held off on reaching the wider industry, apart from sharing on our social media channels (which we’ll discuss later).
This approach lets us a) acknowledge and reward those who’ve supported us in various ventures and b) follow a proven path to secure rapid success.
Now, how can a real estate agent use this formula?
Here’s a tailored strategy with actionable ideas a real estate agent can use to connect with a diverse array of local contacts like friends, family, businesses, schools, government, restaurants, and sporting teams:
1. Personal & Friends/Family Network
Monthly “Market Insider” Newsletter: Share quick updates on the local real estate market, new listings, and neighbourhood tips with a personal touch. This keeps you top-of-mind without being overtly promotional.
Engage on Social Media: Post updates on local events, congratulate friends on milestones, and share community spotlights. Use platforms like Instagram Stories or Facebook to casually connect and showcase your involvement in the community.
2. Local Businesses & Restaurants
Feature Local Businesses: Spotlight a “Business of the Week” on your social media and highlight what makes them unique. This not only gives businesses free promotion but builds goodwill. Include posts like “5 Best Coffee Spots in [Suburb]” or “Where to Find the Best Happy Hour Deals.”
Collaborate on Events or Giveaways: Partner with a local restaurant or café to host an open house with free coffee or treats. You could also run a giveaway where followers tag friends for a chance to win a gift card from the local business.
3. Schools & Educational Institutions
Sponsor Local School Events: Provide branded sponsorship for school carnivals, charity events, or fundraisers. This shows your commitment to the community while increasing visibility.
Back-to-School Drive: Organise a supply drive for families, helping kids get ready for school. Encourage donations and invite other families to participate, positioning yourself as a community-minded leader.
Real Estate Education Nights: Partner with local PTAs to hold free informational nights on buying/selling real estate, tailored to parents who might be considering a move.
4. Local Government and Community Organisations
Attend Council Meetings and Events: Stay visible by attending community meetings. Share updates from these meetings on social media to show you’re informed and connected.
Community Clean-Up Days: Host or join a local clean-up, inviting clients, friends, and family. This can be an ongoing effort where you lead by example in beautifying the neighbourhood.
Local Advocacy: If there’s a community issue (like zoning changes or new developments), provide information to your followers. This can help establish you as a trusted source on local matters.
5. Restaurants and Hospitality
Restaurant Reviews & Recommendations: Do monthly posts about popular or hidden gem restaurants, tagging the restaurant to build rapport and encourage cross-promotion.
Dinner on Us: Partner with a restaurant to offer a “Dinner on Us” for clients who close a deal with you. It’s a great way to celebrate the partnership and support the local restaurant scene.
Client Appreciation Events: Host client gatherings at a local restaurant to celebrate milestones and invite potential clients as well. It’s a friendly way to build relationships in an informal setting.
6. Sports Teams and Fitness Centres
Sponsor Local Teams or Events: Support youth or amateur sports teams by sponsoring uniforms or equipment. Your name on jerseys or banners at games increases your visibility.
Fitness Giveaway Collaboration: Partner with local gyms or studios for giveaways like a free month of membership or personal training sessions for anyone who books an appointment with you.
Host a “Real Estate & Wellness” Event: Collaborate with a fitness coach to offer a community event that combines fitness and real estate market insights.
7. Local Media & Influencers
Create Community Highlights: Interview local business owners, school principals, or team coaches, and share their stories online. This can position you as someone truly interested in the area and its people.
Get Featured in Local Publications: Contribute articles or market insights to community newsletters, school bulletins, or local online publications.
8. Charities and Community Services
Charity Drives: Host seasonal charity events, such as winter coat drives or holiday food donations, in collaboration with local businesses. It’s a meaningful way to build community ties.
Volunteer Initiatives: Actively participate in or sponsor community services and encourage others to join.
This strategy, using a genuine, community-centred approach, helps you build a brand that resonates with a wide audience, from local businesses to schools and sports teams, while establishing a professional, trust-building presence.
